. Welcome Mr. Bovie! July 2010 My name is Adam Bovie, and I am honored to introduce myself as the director of the Royal Blue Regiment. Though this is my first credentialed teaching assignment, I come into teaching with a history of professional and teaching experience. I attended UC San Diego and CSU Fullerton, studied jazz pedagogy under the late Professor Jimmy Cheatham and conducting under Dr. Mitch Fennell. I have performed professionally all over Southern California with organizations such as Walt Disney Entertainment and artists such as John Clayton, Wayne Bergeron, Jiggs Whigham and Bob Florence. Mr. Way has done an incredible job of organizing the musical and logistical aspects of this program in preparation for his move to Helix H.S. He has truly gone above and beyond the call of duty, and I want to personally and publicly thank him for his commitment to the Royal Blue Regiment. In speaking with Mr. Way, Marty Bassett, Vice Principal Jeff Meredith and Booster President Jim Sandlin I was amazed and humbled by the commitment to excellence and openness with which I was greeted. Thank you all for your sincerity and commitment to the students and to the tradition of the Royal Blue Regiment. I feel truly blessed and I know that we can collaborate together to continue a tradition of musical growth within the program. To my students, I am a firm believer that music education is fun and rewarding when a group of musicians who rehearse and practice with active ears and minds are held to the highest musical standards. During my rehearsals, my most important goal will be for the ensemble to play with the finest musicianship possible. To achieve that goal, I hope you will embrace my rehearsal techniques and try - with an engaged, open mind - to use active listening and your musical judgment in the ensemble and while practicing individually. When we start to internally demand a higher quality of practice and performance, we can focus on the joy of making and sharing better music and will become lifelong learners and performers no matter what direction our lives may take. On Friday, July 16 I believe I was handed the keys to a kingdom with great potential, and I plan on working tirelessly with you - the students, parents, administration and community - to grow our program and achieve high musical and educational standards in accordance with that potential. I look forward to a great year. Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds Adam Bovie |
